Live Review: FRONTIERS Rock Festival IV ± Live Music Club (Italy), 29/04/2017
Thursday 18 May 2017
Frontiers is a huge Italian label which has collaborated universally with a lot of great bands, both old and legendary from the 70s and the 80s and new promising ones. Four years ago, the label decided to organize an annual festival with bands they represent. On the 29th and 30th of April the 4th Frontiers Rock Festival took place and FeelA RockA was present.
The venue is located between Milan and Bergamo, in a non-residential area full of malls, department stores and businesses. After the necessary safety control, I entered the venue and saw a beautiful high stage, a huge bar and two different levels with crowd panels. At the back of the venue I could see stands with CDs, vinyls and DVDs of Frontiers at reasonable prices, authentic t-shirts, posters and merchandise of the bands which took part in the festival.
What struck me the most, was the fact that there were two side exits which led to a “park” with grass, stands, benches and food & drink kiosks. This resulted in the crowd being able to take pleasant breaks to relax, smoke, take selfies and meet people from all around Europe as well as some of the festival’s artists. How I wish there were a similar concert venue in our country!

Palace, took on the difficult task of opening the festival. They are a band which made a very impressive debut album and is consisted of exceptional musicians and a young singer whose voice would envy even the great rock stars. Despite the few technical sound problems, they coped very well and they provided an ideal opening act, “opening” the audience’s appetite as well.
Next on stage, were a new band from Finland called One Desire. With just one album in their career so far they managed to convince all of us that the future of the Melodic Hard Rock scene belongs to them. The band performed passionately and energetically and the frontman with his good looks made the girls of the audience smile. After the end of their performance, they were happy to take pictures with their fans.
It was Crazy Lixx’s turn from Sweden, who showed their wild intensions from the very beginning. The band is reminiscent of the great names of Hair Metal of the 80’s. They were brilliant throughout their performance and they urged the audience to participate in their great party with endless energy. The atmosphere got heated and the bodies started sweating! Everybody gave them a warm applause and they deserved it.
Next on stage were Eclipse also from Sweden. I was looking forward to this performance as I saw a lot of people wearing their t-shirts and know that they adore them in their country. The set started in the dark, where you could only see the transparent drum kit lit by led lights and the band logo while an intro was heard through the speakers. When they started playing their songs we experienced an earthquake! Everybody was dancing, screaming and singing the lyrics and I was just speechless! I thought I was attending a live concert of Europe or Guns N Roses! Within the next sixty minutes, everybody was certain that this is a band that will live forever in the history of rock.
After the short break, Revolution Saints appeared on the stage; they are basically a project of three legendary hard rockers: Deen Castrovo (drums & vocals) a former member of Journey, Bad English etc., Jack Blades known for his time in Night Ranger and Damn Yankees and the guitarist Doug Aldrich who is well known to the Greek audience as he was a member of Whitesnake and Dio. Doug is currently considered as one of the most respectable guitarists all over the world! He is very simple, likeable and impervious to time. Their professional performance was expected with songs of their only album but also with covers of the bands they were members of in the past.
The schedule was kept with precision and next on stage were Tyketto. The band from the U.S.A appeared in Thessaloniki some time ago and more recently in “Chania Rock Festival” in Crete. The frontman Danny Vaughn got all the attention with his unparalleled style, his legendary hair and his voice which stands in time. They performed the whole classical debut album Don’t Come Easy (1990) and Forever Young which is considered one of greatest hard rock hits. The crowd were enthusiastic and with good reason.
Steelheart were the headliners of the first day of the festival. They are maybe the last great band of the Hair Metal scene before people in the USA turned to the grunge sound of Nirvana. Miljenko Matijevic is the founder and frontman of the band and he is considered one of the most dynamic voices of all time with a range that surpasses any imagination. He is the only original member of the band and we were all very anxious to witness the state he is in. From the first moment on stage he gave his absolute best and his voice gave us the shivers. One of the highlights of the performance and possibly of the whole first day of the festival was the song She Is Gone which triggered everybody’s emotions, made some cry and couples dance to the rhythm of the ballad.
The first day of the festival was impeccable. Everything ran smoothly and everybody left with a satisfied smile on their faces. Some people after the closing curtain decided to buy what was left of the merchandise.
